On the first legal free bus ride on an SBS bus ATM.
Makes me think of how sustainable a socialist society could be. Despite free transport for the whole day, my bus isn't crowded with commuters- it could be due to it being 1130 pm. But then again, this still defies economic theory doesn't it? With a free public good, isn't it theoretically sound to exploit every bit of it?
But my experience on the bus was wonderful: stepped on to a warm "happy national day" and 2 ezlink tappers that are cover by a KKK-esque mask reading: free rides today! (Or the likes)
Can this be sustainable? Say we all pay a lump sum and get free rides all day err day. Or SMRT and SBS use their millions of profits every year to provide a once a month freerideday?
Maybe bus drivers and operators may be more respected. Maybe commuters would travel with a bit more joy in their hearts. Maybe people would be nicer to each other even on an average day..
