Helmi has been speaking about this theory about the Reacher and the Settler. Apparently it's from HIMYM- I'm not a big fan of the sit com (I blame the lack of time). Okay soooo I was telling them that I'd rather be the latter because you know that you can only get better. Like if you're a 5 and you're with a 7, the 7's likely to influence you (both physically and emotionally) in a positive way such that you slowly turn into a 6ish? and then you can reach for a 8 an then the cycle continues wee. But then again, there's the potential output that limits this process sooo. yup.
Helmi's take on this is that the reacher (or Richard/Richer) reaches and the settler settles. That's it. The reacher will never get anyone better and the settler can easily leave his spouse for a better one. And that's how it goes. But life isn't static and changes can and should be made, especially in a relationship.. So I refute his argument.
I guess this concept applies to other aspects of life like friendship, dancing, and even grades. My take on it is basically the idea of the quote "reach for the moon, because you know when you fail, you'll still land amongst the stars". I particularly refuse to settle for mediocrity, especially when you know that you can do so much better if you put in more effort. That's not to say that I'm a perfectionist; some things in life just have to be imperfect for life to be perfect. And no one gets everything.
But for me, it only applies to things that I care about, if not, I'm mostly a slacker hoho.
yup okay. busy week ahead. Canceled many dates with old friends because I've decided to care about my grades. Won't let TS/SSA/MA pull me down. amen :)
