Skinny Me

So.. I've been bombarded with countless adverts of "skinny mint" on social media recently. Adverts of relatively attractive chicks holding on to this tiffany green package claiming that it works wonder on them and it takes just 28 days to detox and achieve a healthier looking body/lifestyle.

I've visited the website and I found it pretty motivating, with nice fitspiration pictures of perfect size 0 angmo super models and what not. Really have to give a thumbs up to their marketing department.

But here's what I have to say:

If you think that money can buy you a great body, you're either fucking rich, or you're doing it wrong.
Many people have this weird mentality that if I paid for it, it has to work. Right? I pay for an iphone6, it better not crack, I pay for facial, you better get those blackheads out of my nose, I pay for food, it better be delicious.

So when they spend this $69.90 on this product that almost allllll bloggers are raving about, they just assume that in 28 days, their body is gonna magically sailor moon into that of a super model.

When that doesn't happen, instead of reflecting on what went wrong, most of us will tend to point fingers at said product and claim that it's a scam and it doesn't work. We need to learn to be more introspective and take responsibility for our actions.

Stop trying to buy a good body. Pay for it with hard work and sweat. It honestly doesn't take much work. If you're able to like google the reviews of skinny mint and make the online payment and spend 5 min preparing the drink every morning, you're able to use that time to workout! 5 min a day is all you need. Here's a simple routine:

1) mountain climbers for 1 min
2) non-stop push ups for 1 min
3) non-stop squats for 1 min
4) 1 min plank
5) burpees for 1 min

See if you feel detoxed and rejuvenated at the end of 28 days.

That's considered a simple form of HIIT, but if you have more time, you should include cardio into your life. I loveeee swimming I think it's super relaxing and helps my aching muscles recover. If you don't, go for a jog! Hell, even a 20 min walk will do you good!

Your body is a reflection of your lifestyle.

If you want a healthy looking body, go get a healthy lifestyle! Don't just exercise "cause you wanna lose weight"- that's not gonna sustain you in the long run! Find a work out that you love and the weight will naturally lose itself!

And if you really are determined to lose weight, I will suggest you keep a food diary. I'm not asking you to be obsessed with everything that you put into your mouth. It's just helpful to have a tracking device to understand what is causing the problem. High carbs? High sodium? Too much junk? If you stop tracking after 1 week, chances are that you have self control issues.

An app that I used to use is "My Fitness Pal" which is pretty sick cause all you need to do is to take a photo of the barcode and they'll tell you its nutrition contents! It also comes with a weight tracking function that can help you plot your progress!

Also, just having very minor changes in your life can make a difference:

Drink water instead of whatever sweet stuff you're putting into your body. Water is fucking free hello? Don't need to pay 70 bucks to have this amzg substance that makes up 70% of your body. Just bring a water bottle around and drink from it when you're thirsty. You can thank me in 3 months time when your body is well hydrated and loses its water retention naturally.

Walk. I walk (from amk to bishan) to my tution and coaching sessions 4 times a week. Okay la the haze is making it super annoying, but plug in to good music and just imagine that you're a warrior in a dystopian world and everything becomes easier to bear. I also walk from Kent Ridge MRT to Arts if time permits. Used to pant and be super sweaty at the end of it, but my body has tamed and conquered the hills of NUS now. whoop whoop.

If you're willing to pay 70 bucks to "change your life" in 28 days, will you not be willing to take up this FREE challenge for 28 days that will"change your life" yourself forever?

Try it out and let me know how it goes! Maybe I'll start a "skinny me" campaign if it works out fine.

Here's a picture of my fav fellow coach to motivate you. This guy used to be 43kg couple of years back. Got here through pure hard work and determination. Kudos to him!

It's a lot more difficult to gain weight than to lose weight, so if he can do it FOC, I'm sure no one needs to rely on commercialised and well marketed "dieting products" as a quick fix to achieve their ideal body!

In life, we don't get what we want; we get what we deserve x

Psalm 84:10

For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. It's been almost 500 days since I've left my full time job and man was it a journey.. thinking back of those days without my Lord, I really felt this verse speak to me. At first, guilt and shame overcame (more on that next time) - what did you do with these 500 days? What did you accomplish?  But God is gentle and kind - he spoke to me that 500 days on earth is no better than half a day in his courts. How many of us have had a bad half day? Does it affect the rest of our lives? Does it have an impact on eternity? If not, why should I let the enemy use guilt to over power me? A thousand days cannot compare to one day in your courts I'm forever yours <3
